Andromeda

Andromeda, in Greek Mythology, was a beautiful Ethiopian princess. Her mother Cassiopeia boasted that she herself (in some variants her daughter) was more beautiful than the Nereids. Poseidon got offended by this and therefore sent a sea monster in revenge to ravage the country. She had been demanded by Neptune as a sacrifice to appease the Nereids for the insult offered them by her mother. To placate him, Andromeda was fastened to a rock and exposed to the monster, which Perseus slew and received the hand of the maiden as his reward.
