Angola

Angola is a country situated on the western coast of southern Africa. It got independence in 1975 from Portuguese. Luanda is the capital city of this republic. Portuguese is the official language. Bantu language is also wide spread and is in use as a native language. Its surface area is about 1,247 thousand sq km. Its currency is Kwanza.

The country had been a Portuguese possession from the end of the 16th century until 1975 when it became independent republic. However, the independence was followed by years of civil war, chiefly between the ruling Marxist MPLA and the UNITA movement. A ceasefire was signed in 2002 which marked the end of the civil war.
