Anna Akhmatova
Anna Akhmatova (1889-1966) was a Russian poet. Her real name was Anna Andreevna Gorenko. She was one of the important members of the Acmeist group of poets. She is known for her style, characterised by its economy and emotional restraint. Requiem (1935–40) was her tragic masterpiece about the Stalinist terror. She was witness to Russian revolution and penned the atrocities suffered by people. Her many works were destroyed during the Soviet era.
