Antelope

Antelope is a deerlike animal native to Africa and Asia. Originally, it was the name of a fierce mythical creature with long serrated horns living on the banks of the Euphrates.

The present day antelopes are closely allied to the sheep and the goat, and very like the latter in appearance. This swift-running animal is an even-toed ungulate mammal, ie a ruminant. It has a light and elegant figure, slender, graceful limbs, small cloven hoofs, and generally a very short tail. They have smooth hair and upward-pointing horns. It belongs to Bovidae family. Many genera and species of this animal are found.

Antelope is also another term for pronghorn, a North American mammal.
