Antwerp
Antwerp, Flemish name Antwerpen and French name Anvers, is a port city in northern Belgium on the Scheldt River, 50 miles from the sea. It is a capital city of the Antwerp Province. Historically, it was a large fortified trading city in Belgium, with a beautiful Gothic cathedral, the spire 402 ft. high; the burial-place of Rubens; has a large picture-gallery full of the works of the Dutch and Flemish artists. By the 16th century, it was a leading European commercial and financial centre.
