Aorta

Aorta is a term in anatomy for the main artery which supplies oxygenated blood to the circulatory system of the body. It passes over the heart from left ventricle and runs down in front of the backbone in human beings.

However, it should be noted that the great Greek anatomist Hippocrates used this term for the branches of the windpipe, and Aristotle, as a zoologist, used this term for the great artery.
