Apollo

Apollo is the name given to the American space programme intended for landing astronauts on the moon. It was carried out by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Apollo 8 was the first mission to orbit the moon in 1968 and Apollo 11 was the first to land astronauts on the moon on July 20, 1969. Five further landings also took place up to 1972.
