Appenzell

Appenzell was a canton town in the northeast of Switzerland which was also the capital of the canton. It was enclosed by St. Gall, divided into Outer Rhoden, which is manufacturing and Protestant, and Inner Rhoden, which is agricultural and Catholic. It existed from 1403 to 1597. The geography has since changed, and now it is the capital of the canton of Appenzell Inner Rhoden. It is situated at the foot of the Alpstein mountains.
