Apple

Apple is a name of a fruit, and the tree which bears it. The fruit has typically thin red or green skin. It has crisp flesh. It is typically eaten raw. Many of its varieties (hybrids and cultivars) have been developed over the years as dessert, cooking fruit, or cider. It belongs to rose family, botanically Rosaceae family, of the genus Malus.

The Big Apple is sometimes simply referred to as the Apple, while the word apple is also used with modifier, such as custard apple, or thorn apple, which are unrelated fruits resembling an apple in some way.
