Aquilegia

Aquilegia is a plant of the temperate regions of the northern hemisphere belonging to the genus of the same name. It belongs to the buttercup family, botanically Ranunculaceae. It bears showy flowers with backward-pointing spurs. Its seeds and roots are highly poisonous. Its flowers contain five sepals, five petals and five pistils. It is widely grown in gardens as ornamental. It has some medicinal qualities but medicinal use is generally avoided due to the poisons it contains.
