Arachne

Arachne, in Greek mythology, was a Lydian maiden, who excelled in the art of weaving. Once, she had proudly challenged Athena to a contest and show her ability to weave as artistic a work as she did. Athena failed in the competition, destroyed Arachne's work and tried to hang herself in her despair. However, Athena changed Arachne into a spider.
