Archangel
Archangel, also Arkhangelsk in Russian, is a port city in northwestern Russia. It is the oldest seaport of Russia, on the Dvina, near its mouth, on the White Sea. A monastery of the Archangel Michael is situated here. It is this monastery from which the city derives its name. The port is accessible to navigation from July to October, is connected with the interior by river and canal, and has a large trade in flax, timber, tallow, and tar.
