AR`COT

AR`COT, is a town and suburb of Vellore city in the state of Tamil Nadu in India.

History

Arcot was the name of two districts, N. and S., in the Presidency of Madras;

also chief town in the district, 65 m. SW. of Madras; captured by Clive in 1787; once the capital of the Carnatic.
