Areopagus

Areopagus, literally "the hill of Ares" in Greek, is in Athens in Greece. In ancient days, the highest governmental council, and later a judicial court met there. The hill gave name to the court itself, and also the celebrated council held there, a tribunal of 31 members, charged with judgment in criminal offences, and whose sentences were uniformly the awards of strictest justice.
