Argentina

Argentina is a republic in South America. Buenos Aires is the capital city of this country. Its surface area is 2,780,400 sq km and currency is peso. The republic occupies much of the southern part of South America. Spanish is its official language.

Argentina was colonized by the Spanish in the 16th century. It declared its independence in 1816. By mid 19th century, it emerged as a democratic republic, but has periodically fallen under military rule. Its claim to the Falkland Islands led to an unsuccessful war with Britain in 1982.
