Arizona

Arizona, also Ariz. in short, is a state in the United States. It is situated in the southwestern US on the border with north of Mexico. Phoenix is its capital city. It is nearly four times as large as Scotland, rich in mines of gold, silver, and copper, and fertile in the lowlands. Much of the surface is a barren plateau 11,000 ft. high, through which the cañon of the Colorado passes.

Arizona became 48th state of the United state on February 14, 1912. It was part of New Spain until 1821, lands ceded by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 and the Gadsden Purchase in 1853, from which it was organized as a US territory in 1863.
