Arles

Arles is a city, one of the oldest in France. It is situated in southeastern France on the Rhône, 46 miles north of Marseilles, where Constantine built a palace, with ruins of an amphitheatre and other Roman works. It was the seat of several Church Councils, and was the capital of the medieval kingdom of Arles, which was formed by the union of the kingdoms of Provence and Burgundy in the 10th century.
