Arnold of Brescia
Arnold of Brescia (c. 1090 – 1156) was an Italian monk, and disciple of Abelard. He declaimed against the temporal power of the Pope, the corruptions of the Church, and the avarice of the clergy. He headed an insurrection against the Pope in Rome, which collapsed under the Pope's interdict. At last, he was burned alive in 1156, and his ashes thrown into the Tiber.Nearby pages
