Artesian Wells

Artesian wells are wells made by boring for water where it is lower than its source, so as to obtain a constant supply of it with little or no pumping. It is bored perpendicularly into water-bearing strata lying at an angle, the natural pressure of which produces the constant water supply. These are named after Artois, a region and former province of northwestern France, where such wells were first made.
