Arwal district

Arwal is a district in the State of Bihar in India with its headquarters at Arwal. It is locate in between Latitude - 25.25° N and Longitude - 84.6833333° E. The district of Arwal lies in the central Bihar region of the state. It is adjacent to the district of Patna. Arwal Nagar Parishad is the only town in the district and is situated on the eastern bank of the river Son, which is a tributary to the river Ganges. The district falls under Magadh division. The district is bounded on north by Patna on south by Aurangabad and Gaya, on east by Jehanabad and on west by Bhojpur and Rohtas districts.

Area of the district is 638 sq km. It has a population of 700,843 as per census 2011.

Arwal is the only subdivision in the district. There are five development blocks in the district which are Arwal, Kaler, Karpi, Kurtha and Suryapur Vanshi. There are 68 panchayats and 335 villages in the district.

Economy of the district is totally agriculture based and this area does not have any presence of any Industry. Most of the area of the district is well irrigated. Paddy, Maize and Wheat are major crops of this district. The climate of Arwal is of extreme nature, i.e. very hot in the summers and biting cold in the winters. The total land available in the district is 195966.08 acres. Forest coverage is very small. The net sown area available for cultivation is 129166.39 acres, which is 65.91% of the total available land.

Magahi is the main spoken language of the district.

This district came into existence in August 2001 (20-08-2001) by carving it out from Jehanabad.
