Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences
Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) is in Nainital district of Uttarakhand in India. It is situated on Manora peak at about a distance of one kilometre from Hanumangarhi and about 9 kms from Nainital town. It is a centre of astronomical studies and optical tracking of man made satellites. People are also allowe to view stars and planets from this centre on certaind days, especially on moon lit nights. This observatory was established at Nainital in 1955, however, later in 1961, shifted to the present location. The primary objective of the observatory has been to develop facilities for modern astrophysical research in stellar, solar & theoretical branches of astrophysics.
