Aryl

Aryl is a term in chemistry for something of or denoting a radical substance which is obtained by removing a hydrogen atom from an aromatic hydrocarbon. The word is formed by joining the first two letters of (ar)omatic and 'yl', a suffix used to form name of a group. Thus aryl group is a group of radicals obtained in this manner.
