Ashtavakra
Ashtavakra, in Hindu mythology, was a sage in ancient India. He was a son of the sage Kahod. His mother's name was Sujata. His grandfather's name was Uddalak who was also a sage. According to Indian mythology when he was in mother's womb and his father Kahod was reciting Veds, he told his father that he was chanting it wrong. His father Kahod was angry with the child. His father told impudent and curses him to be born crooked. He was born crooked so his name was Ashtavakra. Sujata had good relationship with his younger brother Shvetketu, her uncle, and nephew. Ashtavakra's father Kahod was drowning himself in a river but he did not know about his father's death. One day he asked his mother about the death of his father. After knowing this, he went to the Mithila with Shvetketu. He defeated Vandi in the court of Raja Janak. Vandi had also to compel to drown himself into the river. At that moment, Kahod rose from the water and took his son Ashtavakra to the holy river. After having bath into the river his limbs straightened out. Ashtavakra was married to a good woman named Suprabha who was daughter of a great sage Vadanya.Nearby pages
