Asia Minor

Asia Minor, also called Anatole or Anatolia in Greek, comprises most of the Asian part of the modern Turkey and the Armenian highland. It is the western peninsula of Asia, and is bounded by the Black, Aegean, and Mediterranean seas. It forms the greater part of the present day Turkey.

It is a peninsular extension westward of the Armenian and Kurdistan highlands in Asia, bounded on the north by the Black Sea, on the west by the Archipelago, and on the south by the Levant. Asia Minor is indented all round, mainland as well as adjoining islands, with bays and harbours, all more or less busy centres of trade. It is as large as France, and consists of a plateau with slopes all round to the coasts.
