Assamese

Assamese is someone or something of or relating to Assam, its people, and its languae. An inhabitant or a native of Assam is also called Assamese.

The India language Assamese is the official and major language of Assam. It is related to Bengali. The earliest specimen of the Assamese script is to be found in copper plates and inscriptions discovered in different parts of the region. Origin of Assamese goes back to the Magadhan-Prakrit script. Words of Indo-Aryan and Indo-Chinese origins have also made their way into Assamese. Pre-Aryan ans non-Aryan influences are also discernible not only in loan words but also in its grammar, syntax and pronunciation.
