Assonance

Assonance is a term in poetry for a device used in poetic composition. It usually involves one or more vowel sounds in nonrhyming stressed syllables near enough to each other for the echo to be discernible. They are similar and are repeated within a word, sentence, or phrase, such as in penitence and reticence.
