Asynchronous

Asynchronous is a term in computing for a computer controlled time protocol for certain operation to begin only after receipt of signal that the preceding operation has already been completed.

In common parlance, two or more things are said to be asynchronous if they exist or happen at different times, at a different rate, or not exactly together.
