Athenaeum
Athenaeum, also Atheneum, was a school of learning established in Rome about 133 by Hadrian. It was named so because the word also denotes the temple of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom. Perhaps for this reason, the word is also used in the names of institutions and libraries concerned with the study of science and literature, such as the Boston Athenaeum, and in the titles of periodicals dedicated to art, literature, and science.
