Athenian Empire

Athenian Empire, also known as Delian League, was an alliance of ancient Greek city states. It derives its name from the fact of its being dominated by Athens. The alliance was form against the Persians during 478-447 BC. The alliance was broken up when Athens was defeated in the Peloponnesian War of 404 BC. However, the alliance was formed again under the leadership of Athens against Spartan aggression during 377-338 BC.
