Atom

Atom is the smallest indivisible constituent of an element. It is therefore the basic unit of an element. Atoms are held together in molecules. The diameter of an atom is roughly 10-8 cm. Its nucleus consists of protons and neutrons, and is positively charged, and is surrounded by negatively charged electrons. An atom possesses a characteristic number protons depending on the element of which it is the constituent part.
