Aurangzeb

Aurangzeb (1618-1707) was a Mogul emperor of Hindustan. He ascended the throne in 1658 and ruled supreme until his death in 1707. Thus Aurangzeb ruled for 50 years, matching Akbar's reign in longevity. He increased the Mogul empire to its greatest extent. During his 50 years of rule, he tried to fulfill his ambition of bringing the entire subcontinent under one rule.

He kept his five sons away from the royal court, and none of them was trained in the art of governance. He left behind no personal wealth. With his death, the forces of disintegration set in and the mighty Mogul empire started collapsing.
