Authoress

Authoress is a feminine form of the word author, and thus the term denotes a female author. Though the word 'authoress' is apparently equivalent to 'female author', there is really difference in meaning. As the role of women in society has changed, the use of the feminine form 'authoress' has become problematic, and is considered old-fashioned, sexist, and patronizing. The word 'author' is used instead as neutral form in which the gender of the person is not specified.
