Autun

Autun is an ancient French city in the department of Saône-et-Loire, on the Arroux, 28 miles northwest from Châlons. It was founded during the Principate era of the early Roman Empire by Emperor Augustus. It was named Augustodunum at that time. It was the town where Talleyrand was bishop. It has a fine cathedral and is also rich in antiquities. It has been known for manufacturing serges, carpets, velvet, &c.
