Ave Maria

Ave Maria is an invocation to the Virgin Mary, so called as forming the first two words of the salutation of the angel in Luke 1: 28. In fact, the first line of this prayer is adapted from Luke1:28. It is pare of Catholic worship. The opening words in Latin literally means 'Hail, Mary!', and therefore the prayer is also called Hail Mary.
