Axolotl

Axolotl, a batrachian or a Mexican salamander, numerous in Mexico and the Western States, believed to be in its preliminary or tadpole state of existence. It retains its aquatic newtlike larval form in natural conditions throughout life but is also able to breed. Its zoological name is Ambystoma mexicanum belonging to the family Ambystomatidae.
