Ayatollah Khomeini

Ayatollah Khomeini (1902-1989) (Ruholla Mussavi) was an Iranian Shia Muslim and politician. He was opposed to the rule of Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi and therefore lived as an exile in Turkey, Paris and Iraq. After the Shah government collapsed, he returned to Iran and became head of the state in 1979. He introduced strict Islamic tradition and principles in the country which is termed as 'Islamic Revolution'.
