Babesiosis

Babesiosis, also babesiasis, is another name for piroplasmosis, a disease of cattle and other livestock. It is caused by protozoans of the genus Babesia of the phylum Sporozoa, and transmitted by the bite of ticks. The disease cause the passing of red or blackish urine and severely affects red blood cells of the animal. The disease in named after the Romanian bacteriologist Victor Babes (1854-1926) who identified the genus 'Babesia', also named after him, causing the disease.
