Babhruvahan

Babhruvahan was a son of Arjun by his wife Chitrangada. He was adopted by his maternal grandfather. He reigned at Manipur as his successor.

According to Indian mythology, Arjun once went to Manipur with his horse that was intended for the Ashvamedh Yagya which was to be performed by the Pandavas.

The horse was caught by his son Babhruvahan. As per the custom, he then asked his son for a fight. However, out of love and respect, Babhruvahan refused to fight with his father. For this reason Arjun grew angry with his son and called him meek and said that his behaviour was not befitting for a king.

Babhruvahan took the challenge and fought the battle with his father. He seriously injured his father by serving an arrow.

He then repented his action and wanted to kill himself.

However, Babhruvahan’s step mother Ulupi who was a Nag princess told him to go to the serpent world and bring some sanjivani gem to save his father. He then obtained the gem after defeating the serpent Dhritrashtra who was the keeper of the jewel. Ulupi then could restore her husband’s life by the application of the gem.
