Babur

Babur (1483-1530), also spelled Babar or Baber, born Zahir ad-Din Muhammad, also called Babur the Conqueror, was the first Mogul emperor of India. He was descendant and great grandson of Tamerlane. He was also a great grandson of Genghis Khan from his mother's side.

He thrice invaded India, and in 1526, after confronting and defeating Lodhi at the first battle of Panipat, established his empire. The conquered territory extended from the Oxus to Patna. He ruled from 1526 to 1530 until his death. He was succeeded by his son Humayun.

He was the first Mogul emperor known for religious tolerance and having interest in arts. He left memoirs which is known as Baburnama. His dynasty lasted for three centuries in India.
