Badakhshan
Badakhshan was a Mohammedan territory North-East of Afghanistan, a picturesque hill country, rich in minerals. It was 200 milles from East to West and 150 from North to South. It had been often visited by travellers, from Marco Polo onwards. The inhabitants were called Badakhshans, were of the Aryan family and spoke Persian. The historical region is now spread in parts of Afghanistan, Tajikistan, China, and Pakistan. In 19th century parts of the historical Badakhshan were came under Afghanistan, Britain, and Russia.Badakhshan Province is now Afghanistan bordered by Tajikistan, China, and Pakistan. Fayzabad is the capital of this province.
