Bageshwar
Bageshwar is a district in the State of Uttarakhand in India. It is located between 29°42' - 30°18' latitude and 79°28' - 80°9' longitude.The district is bounded in the east by the district of Pithoragarh bordering Tibet, in the west by the district of Chamoli, in the north by the Great Himalayas and in the south by Almora district. It derives its name from its headquarter town of the same name.
Area of the district is 1687.8 sq km and population 247163 as per census 2001.
There are 4 tehsils, 3 community development blocks, 35 nyay panchayats, 397 gram panchayats, and 957 villages (74 uninhabited) in the district.
History
History of the district can be traced back to ancient days. It finds mention in even several Hindu scriptures.The district was earlier in Uttar Pradesh before the State of Uttarakhand came into existence in 2000.
