Bail

Bail is a bar that holds something in place, or a legal term for a condition of temporary release from jail.

As for several kinds of bars, it the bar on a typewriter or computer printer that holds the paper steady. The bar separating horses in an open stable is also called bail. Bar is also the arched handle on a bucket, teapot etc. Bail, in fishing, is the bar that guides the fishing line on a reel. In mountaineering, bail is the bar on a crampon that fits into a groove in the sole of a boot. In cricket, bail is each of two crosspieces bridging the stumps.

As a legal term, bail is a temporary release of an accused from jail awaiting trial, sometimes on security deposit as guarantee for their appearance in the court.
