Bakelite

Bakelite is an early form of brittle plastic. It is made from formaldehyde and phenol. It is typically dark brown in colour. This trademarked plastic is used chiefly in production of electric equipment. It was named after its inventor Leo H Baekeland (1863-1944), the Belgian-born American chemist.
