Bal Ram Jakhar

Dr Bal Ram Jakhar (1923-2016), also Balram Jakhar, was a distinguished Indian politician. He served as Lok Sabha Speaker (1980-1989), Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Governor of Gujarat (2004), and Governor of Madhya Pradesh (2004-2009). He has the distinction of beginning his career in the Parliament by occupying the office of the Speaker immediately after his election on Congress ticket to the Seventh Lok Sabha for the first time. He also has the rare honour of having been chosen unanimously to preside over two successive Lok Sabha for their full terms.
