Ballade

Ballade is a form of poem. It is generally composed of three stanzas and an envoi to conclude. The refrain is the last line of the first stanza. The rhyme scheme remains the same throughout, thought strictly limited in number.

A short lyrical piece of music, especially one for piano, is also called a ballade. Formerly, in the Middle English, ballad was spelled ballade, and pronounced as ballad. However, today ballade is different from ballad, both in meaning and pronunciation.
