Ballet

Ballet is a form of dance. It is an artistic dance performed to music. It has precise and highly formalized set steps and gestures. It is characterized by light, graceful, and fluid movements. Pointe shoes are typically used during performance. The classical ballet, as we know it, originated sometime during the renaissance in Italy, which began is late fourteenth century and continued through 15th and 16th century. The modern form of the ballet was established in the 19th century.

A creative work, performance, or music written for this form of dance is also called ballet. A group regularly performing ballets is also sometimes named with this word, such as London City Ballet.
