Bamian

Bamian is a high-lying valley in Afghanistan, 8500 ft. above sea-level. Out of the rocks on its North side, it is full of caves.

The caves until 2000 were hewn huge figures of Buddha, one of them 173 ft. high, all of ancient date, however, were destroyed by Al-Quaida terrorists. The tragic destruction of the Buddhas of Bamiyan was carried out by terrorists in March 2001.
