Band
Band is a flat thin strip or loop that is put around something either as a decoration or to hold it. A plain ring for the finger, especially a gold wedding ring, is also called a band. In ornithology, a band is a ring of metal placed around a bird's leg to identify it for study. In mechanics, it is the belt connecting wheels or pulleys.
A collar with two hanging strips worn as a formal dress is also called bands. Such bands are worn by certain clerics and academics.
Band is also a group of people having common interest. In music, it is a small group of singers and musicians. It is also an informal term for an orchestra. In anthropology, it is a subgroup of a tribe. A herd or flock of animals is also called band.
