Baneberry

Baneberry, literally a poisonous berry, is a bitter, poisonous, ans shiny berry and the plant that yields it. It is a plant of the buttercup family, and it bears fluffy spikes of creamy-white flowers. It is native to the north temperate regions. It is also known for its medicinal qualities, and formerly was used in medicinal preparations. Many species of baneberry are found including the North American white baneberry (Actaea pachypoda) that grows clusters of black-eyed white berries on red stalks. Baneberry belongs to the genus Actaea, and the family Ranunculaceae.
