Bank

Bank is the land area the slopes down to a lake or river. The elevation in the riverbed or seabed is also called bank, such as mudbank or sandbank. Bank is also a mound or mass of a substance. In civil engineering, bank is a transverse slope given across a curve to a road, railway lines, sports track etc. Such a slope is made to enable a runner or vehicle driver to safely manage the speed while passing through the curve. In aviation, bank is the sideways tilt of an aircraft when turning during flight making a curve. A tier of oars, the cushion of a pool table, or a row of similar things grouped together, especially electrical or electronic devices is also called bank.

A bank is also a financial institution that give people a facility to deposit and withdraw money. It invests the deposited money, gives loans at interest, exchanges currency, and gives interest to customer on their deposited money. Bank is also a stock of something that is made available for use when needed. The place where certain things are kept is also called a bank, such as seed bank, or memory bank. In games and gambling, where or with whom the money or tokes are kept is called the bank or the banker.
